SofanMax - Ad blocker is the enemy of all website owners! As small-time bloggers, we rely heavily on ad revenue to get income. Unfortunately, nowadays, visitors often enable ad blockers on their browsers.
Ad-blocking plugins prevent advertisements from being displayed. Consequently, visitors could enjoy your website, yet you won't earn a dime! It is unfair!
I understand that ads are annoying as heck, especially when they are intrusive. Many big publishers slap tons of ads on their websites so visitors turn to ad-blocking plugins. However, not all websites are like that!

Disabling the ad blocker on your browser will allow you to support your favorite writers! They have been posting informative, useful content for free, and ads are the only way they can keep doing that. So, allowing ads on their website is the least you could do to appreciate their hard work.
This blog, for example, only enables minimum non-intrusive ads! So, if you are a fellow writer, I do hope that you understand and allow ads on SofanMax!
As website owners, there are several ways to address this prevalent ad blocker usage. One of them is through enabling AdSense's Ad Blocking Recovery Message!
What is an Ad Blocking Recovery Message?

AdSense allows you to create and display a message to your users to help recover revenue lost to ad blockers.
You can use the ad-blocking recovery messages to ask users to allow ads on your site or offer them alternative ways to support your site, like putting on a link to a donation page for example.
When someone visits your website, a small pop-up window will automatically appear! The pop-up can contain a message, appealing to the visitor to allow ads. Once the visitor clicks the "allow ad button" on the pop-up, they can continue reading the article with ads enabled.

How does AdSense's ad blocking recovery message work?
When visitors allow ads through the ad blocking recovery message, their ad blockers will automatically make an exception for your website!
Ads will start to appear, even when they come next time. So, the pop-up will only be displayed once if visitors allow ads right away.
On the contrary, if visitors dismiss the pop-up without allowing ads, the pop-up will appear again when they open a new page or visit at a different time.
Some people call this feature an anti-adblocker!
Some anti-adblockers would show a pop-up that cannot be dismissed, preventing visitors from reading the content unless they allow ads. This can be counterproductive because some users may not want ads at all and might choose to leave your website. It could backfire, lowering your website engagement and giving the visitors a bad experience.
Fortunately, you can make it so AdSense's ad-blocking recovery message can be dismissed, giving freedom of choice to your visitors!
They could dismiss the pop-up and continue to read the published articles without ads, which is less forceful and more user-friendly that way. We don't get the ad income but at least we do not lose their readership and engagement!
Of course, AdSense ad blocking recovery message also can be customized so visitors will not be able to dismiss it, forcing them to allow ads!
How to Enable AdSense Ad Blocking Recovery Message on Blogspot?
You can enable the AdSense Ad Blocking Recovery Message feature even on Blogspot websites.
Once you've created a free blogspot website using blogger.com, you can monetize it with AdSense. Then, you can display ads to earn a little bit of income. Once AdSense approves your blog, the Ad Blocking Recovery Message will be available to you!
Here is how you enable the Ad Blocking Recovery Message on your blogs!
Step 1: Open the Privacy & messaging menu on AdSense
The Privacy & messaging menu is located in the sidebar! Then, scroll down! Under the Monetization, you will find the menu where you can manage your Ad blocking recovery messages!
You will notice how many ad blocking recovery messages are active. Simply click Manage to proceed!
To enable ad blocking recovery messages, you will need to create your message first! Simply select the Create message button!
Step 2: Create your ad blocking recovery message!
Add a name to your untitled ad blocking recovery message! (top left).
Then, click on the "Select sites" button to choose where the message will be shown later!
You will see a list of your websites monetized using AdSense. Select your site by ticking the check box, then add your site name. After that, add a logo so be sure that your website has one! You can also add custom choice URL and footer URL but these two options are optional.
In this example, I'd like to create an ad blocking recovery message for TokoKata! So I name the message accordingly, then select tokokata.com for the site. I also add TokoKata's logo.
Once you've appropriately selected the site, click Confirm!
Step 3: Customize your ad blocking recovery message!
Here, you can start to ticker with your recovery message. You can interact and customize with the preview of the pop-up directly!
You may edit the wording of the messages! Make sure that it is short, straight to the point and also appealing.
On the right sidebar, you can customize the language and the placement! You can also customize the styling.
In the "Placement" area, you can decide how and where you'd like the message to be displayed on your site:
- Centered modal (dismiss): The message is centered on your page with a dark background that partly obscures page content. Users can close the message.
- Centered modal (non-dismissible): The message is centered on your page with a dark background that partly obscures page content. Users cannot close the message.
- Bottom pinned (dismiss): The message is fixed to the bottom of the page to allow site visitors to view the page's content. The message stretches to fit the full width of the device screen. Users can close the message.
So, if you want to make it mandatory for visitors to allow ads, you should choose the Centered modal (non-dismissable). But, remember, as I've said before, not giving visitors a choice may have its drawbacks.
Here, as an example, I chose the Centered modal for tokokata.com and made sure that the message language is Indonesian because the website is intended for Indonesian visitors.
Once you are satisfied with your design and the recovery message, it's time to publish it. Don't worry if you make some mistakes, you can change the message later anytime after you've published it.
Step 4: Publishing the AdSense ad blocking recovery message!
Press the Publish button on the top right corner once you've finished designing the recovery message. Then, you will need to add the tag code to your blog!
You will be able to find it from the Tagging menu, next to the Messages as highlighted in the picture above.
Copy the Ad blocking recovery tag code and add it to your Blogspot theme!
Make sure that you paste the tag code under the <head> tag in your Blogspot theme! Then, don't forget to save it.
You can test whether you've properly added AdSense ad blocking recovery message by opening your blog! You should see the pop-up immediately.
